New Delhi: Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, has raised concerns about the conduct of three MPs, alleging the use of unparliamentary language and threatening behaviour in the Lok Sabha. In a letter addressed to Speaker Om Birla, Gogoi urged immediate action against the MPs involved, highlighting the issue as a serious breach of parliamentary decorum.
Gogoi, who represents Jorhat in Assam, expressed deep concern over what he described as a decline in the standard of parliamentary discourse. He accused Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh, of making threatening statements against former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda during the monsoon session. Gogoi’s letter claimed that such behaviour undermines the dignity and respect of Parliament.
The Congress leader also accused BJP state minister Ravneet Singh Bittu of using unparliamentary language while referring to Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi on July 25. According to Gogoi, this incident occurred during a session in which Bittu made derogatory remarks that were not in line with parliamentary norms.
Additionally, Gogoi criticised BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for using communal language during his intervention in the Lok Sabha on the same day. Gogoi lamented that these incidents took place in the presence of the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, suggesting that the government was neglecting its duty to uphold parliamentary procedures and decorum.
In his letter, Gogoi emphasised that all members of Parliament, regardless of party affiliation, should be held accountable for maintaining the rules and standards of the House. He stressed that differences in opinion should not lead to disrespectful behaviour and called on Speaker Om Birla to take immediate and appropriate action against the accused MPs to preserve the integrity of parliamentary proceedings.
