Mumbai: Akshay Kumar’s latest release, Sarfira, has faced a tough start at the box office. The film earned just 2.5 crores on its opening day, marking the lowest opening of Kumar’s career in the past 15 years. Despite a 70 percent increase in earnings on the second day, the film’s performance remains underwhelming.
According to Sacnilk, Sarfira garnered 4.25 crores on its second day. While this increase is a positive sign, the film’s total collection stands at a modest 6.75 crores after two days. Official figures for the second day’s earnings have yet to be released. The film’s budget is reportedly around 100 crores, setting a high bar for profitability.
In contrast, Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2, released on the same day as Sarfira, has performed significantly better. With a budget of 150 crores, Indian 2 collected 25.6 crores on its first day and an additional 16.7 crores on the second day, showcasing a strong box office presence.
Akshay Kumar’s recent track record at the box office has been less than stellar. His high-budget film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, which also featured Tiger Shroff, flopped. Other releases, including Mission Raniganj, Rakshabandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, Bachchan Pandey, and Selfie, also failed to perform well. Ram Setu managed an average performance.
Since 2022, Kumar has had only one superhit film, OMG 2, which featured Pankaj Tripathi in a pivotal role. The story of OMG 2 revolved around Tripathi and his son, earning both critical and commercial success.
As Sarfira continues its run in theaters, it remains to be seen whether the film can pick up momentum and improve its box office standing in the coming days.
