Harare: India delivered a crushing defeat to Zimbabwe in the fourth match of the T20 series, securing an unbeatable 3-1 lead. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were the standout performers for Team India, decimating Zimbabwe’s bowlers and significantly contributing to the victory. Their impressive performance set a new record for the team.
The partnership between Yashasvi and Shubman now ranks fifth in terms of the highest run partnerships as openers for India in T20 Internationals. Remarkably, Gill and Yashasvi also hold the top spot in this list, alongside Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. In 2017, Rohit and Rahul shared a 165-run partnership against Sri Lanka, the highest for India as an opening pair in T20s. Gill and Yashasvi matched this with another 165-run partnership against the West Indies in 2023. Additionally, the duo of Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan has recorded partnerships of 160 and 158 runs. Now, Gill and Yashasvi have added a 156-run partnership against Zimbabwe in Harare to their achievements.
Zimbabwe had initially taken the lead in the T20 series by winning the first match by 13 runs. However, India bounced back strongly, winning the next three consecutive matches. India claimed the second match by a margin of 100 runs and the third by 23 runs. The fourth match saw India triumph by 10 wickets on Saturday. The final match of the series is set to be played on Sunday.
