Lucknow: A devastating road accident occurred in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, this morning, leaving the community in shock. The severity of the crash resulted in 18 fatalities and over 30 injuries. among the deceased, six members of the same family perished in the tragedy.
The bus, travelling from Motihari in Bihar to Delhi, was carrying numerous passengers. Eight members of a family from East Champaran district were on board. Tragically, six of them—Mohammad Ashfaq, Mohammad Ilyas, Munchun Khatoon, Kamrul, Nesha, and Sohail—died on the spot, while the remaining two were critically injured. The family, who had returned home for the Bakrid festival, was heading back to Meerut where they worked. The news of their deaths has plunged their village into mourning, with grief-stricken relatives and neighbours struggling to come to terms with the loss.
The old mother of the deceased, recounting the events, shared that her children were in the process of building a new house in the village. Overcome with sorrow, she questioned who would live in the house now that her sons were gone. The entire village is in a state of mourning, with the family’s cries of despair echoing through the community.

Passengers who survived the crash have recounted the harrowing experience, adding to the sombre atmosphere.
Former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha expressed his condolences over the incident, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his grief. The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the PM Relief Fund.
The two injured family members are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Unnao, as their family and community await their recovery.
