Mumbai: Mumbai Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the deep-fake video case involving South Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna. The arrests come after a video featuring a morphed image of the actress went viral on social media.
The suspects, who have not been identified, are believed to have uploaded the video online. Police are still searching for the main accused, who is believed to have created the video.
“We have zeroed in on four suspects involved in actress Rashmika Mandanna’s deep-fake profile case,” said a police spokesperson. “According to our investigation, these people are not the creators of the video, but they uploaded it online.”
Deepfake videos, which use artificial intelligence to create realistic fake images and videos, have become a growing problem in recent years. The technology has been used to create fake news stories, spread misinformation, and harass and intimidate individuals.
In the case of Rashmika Mandanna, the deepfake video was used to create a fake profile on a social media platform. The actress’s image was on the profile, but someone else wrote the text.
The arrest of the four suspects is a positive step in the fight against fake videos. However, there is still more work to be done to address the problem.
Celebrities and lawmakers have called for stricter laws and regulations to prevent the creation and distribution of deep-fake videos. They have also urged social media companies to do more to flag and remove deep-fake content from their platforms.
