New Delhi: The Parliament security breach involving two individuals who used smoke sticks has taken a new turn, with MP Pratap Simha admitting to issuing passes that enabled their entry.
Manoranjan D. and Sagar, the two individuals responsible for the incident, entered the Lok Sabha visitors’ gallery on Wednesday before disrupting proceedings with smoke sticks. Subsequent investigations revealed that their passes were issued on the recommendation of MP Pratap Simha.
Facing scrutiny, Simha met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi to provide an explanation. In his statement, Simha claimed that he knew Manoranjan’s father and that his family resided within his Lok Sabha constituency. He further stated that Manoranjan had been persistently requesting a pass to visit the Lok Sabha for several months.
Simha’s explanation further revealed that Manoranjan had contacted his office in both Mysuru and Delhi, urging for the pass. On Wednesday morning, Manoranjan, along with Sagar, visited Simha’s office. Simha stated that Manoranjan introduced Sagar as his partner, prompting him to issue a pass for both individuals.
According to reports, Manoranjan, an engineering graduate, had been persistent in his request for a pass, making numerous visits to Simha’s offices.
With new details emerging regarding the security breach and the role of MP Pratap Simha, the investigation is likely to intensify. The incident has raised serious questions about security protocols and the process of issuing passes within Parliament House.
