AAP Loses One More Seat as MLA Bhupat Bhayani Resigns and Rejoins BJP

Ahemadabad: In a blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat, MLA Bhupat Bhayani has resigned from his seat and the party, effectively reducing the AAP’s presence in the state assembly to just four members.

Bhayani, who had won the Visavadar seat in the 2022 election, submitted his resignation to Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary. He subsequently announced his intention to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing his desire to “work for the people” and his nationalist sentiments.

This development comes as a significant setback for the AAP, especially as the Lok Sabha elections draw close. The loss of the Visavadar seat triggers a by-election, which is likely to be closely contested and impact the upcoming national polls.

Bhayani’s political journey saw him rise from a sarpanch to an MLA, initially as a member of the BJP. He held the position of vice president of Junagadh district but was later suspended from the post of sarpanch. Notably, Bhayani was considered close to former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

The AAP’s dwindling presence in Gujarat raises concerns about its future prospects in the state. With the Lok Sabha elections on the horizon, the party must regain momentum and strategize effectively to retain its foothold in the political landscape.
