New Delhi: In a week-long operation, the Income Tax Department has been conducting raids on Congress MP Dheeraj Prasad Sahu’s properties, unearthing an astounding Rs 350 crore in cash from his residence. The investigation has now taken an intriguing turn, as the tax officials are intensifying efforts to locate hidden gold and expensive jewellery on the MP’s premises.
The search, initiated on December 6, targeted the premises of Boudh Distillery and its promoters as part of a tax evasion case. Raids were executed at multiple locations, including Sahu’s residence on Radium Road in West Bengal, Odisha, and Ranchi. The cumulative amount of cash recovered during the ongoing operation has reached Rs 351 crore.
On Tuesday evening, the Income Tax Department introduced the Geo Surveillance System machine to intensify the search for concealed assets. The team plans to dig the soil within the MP’s house, using advanced technology to detect any hidden gold or metal underground.
Contrary to initial suspicions, the authorities reported that there is no trace of gold, expensive jewellery, or metal inside Sahu’s residence. In response, the Income Tax Department has deployed the Geo Surveillance Machine for further investigations. The focus now shifts to whether gold will be discovered during the underground excavation of the MP’s house.
Notably, during the initial stages of the operation, Rs 11 crore in cash was uncovered at Sahu’s White House in Lohardaga, located 90 km from Ranchi. The Geo Surveillance Machine will be employed here as well to verify the absence of hidden assets.
Officials suspect that Sahu may have concealed a significant amount of gold in various hideouts, along with the large cash hoard already discovered. Given the nature of the liquor business, which primarily operates in cash transactions, experts speculate on the magnitude of tax evasion associated with Sahu and his related firms. The Income Tax Department is actively investigating the matter to determine the extent of tax evasion and take appropriate action.
As the operation unfolds, the nation watches closely, anticipating further revelations and potential legal actions against the Congress MP and his associated entities.
