Vice President Dhankhar calls for higher education institutions to drive economic growth.

Dhanbad: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasised the crucial role of higher education institutions in driving India’s economic growth, describing them as “powerful engines” rather than mere “ivory towers of intellect.”

Speaking at the annual convocation of IIT Dhanbad (ISM), Dhankhar highlighted the transformative power of education, stating that the quality of education directly influences a nation’s progress.

He underscored the global recognition of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a world leader, emphasising the need for a non-partisan approach to appreciating individuals and viewing the Prime Minister’s position as a national institution rather than a political one.

Dhankhar stressed the importance of collaboration between the central and state governments for national development, emphasising that no political party should prioritise anything else over the nation’s well-being.

He envisioned IITs as “crucibles for change” and vital forces in propelling India’s leadership in the global technology arena. He elaborated on the impending technological revolution and its transformative impact on our lives, work, and social interactions.

The Vice President further praised the “epochal achievements” in legislation, reservation for women, and other groundbreaking policies implemented during India’s “Amrit Kaal” (Golden Age).

He highlighted the nation’s remarkable advancements in defence capabilities, citing the launch of indigenous warships, frigates, fighter planes, helicopters, and missiles as evidence of India’s commitment to technological advancement.

Dhankhar acknowledged the immense contributions of IIT alumni in various fields and proposed forming a confederation of alumni associations. He envisioned this confederation as a platform to utilise their experience, expertise, and global exposure in policy-making and accelerate positive change.

Governor of Jharkhand C.P. Radhakrishnan, Minister of Health and Family Welfare Banna Gupta, Chairman of the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad Board of Governors Prof. Prem Vrat, and Director Prof. J. K. Pattanayak were present at the ceremony.
