Nagpur: On a day when news surfaced of a pilot dying midair on a LATAM Airlines flight, there was another casualty back home.
An IndiGo pilot, who was assigned to operate a Nagpur-Pune flight (6E135), collapsed at the boarding gate of Nagpur airport and passed away while being taken to a hospital.
Death was, prima facie, due to “sudden cardiac arrest,” PTI quoted KIMS-Kingsway Hospital spokesperson Aejaz Shami as saying.
According to Shami, the hospital’s emergency team tried to revive the pilot by applying CPR, but he did not respond.
The pilot was declared brought dead at the hospital.
“We are saddened at the passing of one of our pilots in Nagpur earlier today. He took unwell at Nagpur airport and was rushed to the hospital where he unfortunately passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones,” an Indigo Airlines statement said.
The flight took off at 1.24 pm, after a 14-minute delay from its scheduled departure.
The pilot was said to have been well-rested prior to flight, as mandated by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines.
