Mother India! Cop’s Wife Breastfeeds Abandoned Infant, Wins Hearts

New Delhi: It’s that kind of heartwarming development which bolsters faith in humanity.

In an act that has won over the Internet, a policeman’s wife found an infant abandoned near a bush and did not hesitate to breastfeed her.

“This is Jyoti. Thinking she heard a faint cry, she asked her husband SHO Vinod Singh to investigate. They found a newborn thrown among the bushes barely alive. Without a second thought Jyoti breastfed the infant. The baby is now in a Noida hospital and doing well. Mother India,” author and columnist Anand Ranganathan tweeted along with a picture of the woman.

When Jyoti Singh found the baby wrapped in a cloth in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park area on December 20, her condition was critical because of the cold conditions.

With the child crying inconsolably when she was taken to a police station, cops realised that she could not be fed anything but breast milk. Jyoti immediately volunteered to breastfeed the hungry infant.

The condition of the infant, who has been admitted to a hospital, is stable.

Police are yet to get any information about her parents who abandoned her.

“I can’t understand how someone could do something like this with a child… I felt miserable watching the baby suffer and felt like crying. I couldn’t just stand and watch her crying in hunger and decided to breastfeed her,” Jyoti told mediapersons.

“I would like to send out a message that if someone has a problem caring for their children, they should take them to a safe place like an orphanage or an NGO where they could be raised. Such reprehensible behaviour is not on,” she added.
