Jammu: At least one security personnel was killed and five jawans, including CISF head constable Pramod Patra from Odisha, were injured in gunfights with terrorists in Jammu on Friday.
Three jawans were injured in an encounter with terrorists in Sunjwan area. Two terrorists were killed in the encounter, which is still under way.
The incident comes two days ahead of a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the region.
The encounter near the Sunjwan cantonment area started after security forces launched a pre-dawn operation against terrorists following a terror attack on a CISF bus.
The bus was carrying 15 CISF personnel, who retaliated forcing the terrorists to flee. A CISF Assistant Sub Inspector was killed and two jawans were injured in the attack.
“Two terrorists have been killed in the Sunjwan encounter. Terrorists holed up at Sunjwan were planning a major attack. The aim was to inflict maximum casualties on security forces,” Jammu and Kashmir police chief Dilbag Singh told NDTV.
The attack comes ahead of Modi’s visit to Jammu on Sunday. The PM will address a major rally which will be attended by thousands of panchayat members at Palli village.
