Bhubaneswar: The Delhi High Court’s verdict that ‘no criminality is involved if something is said with a smile’ has triggered a meme fest on Twitter.
While hearing a plea for hate speech in the Delhi riots case, Justice Chandra Dhari Singh said: “If you’re saying something with a smile, then there is no criminality, if you’re saying something offensive, then definitely.”
“Check and balance” is needed before filing FIRs over political speeches, he added.
The case pertained to speeches made just prior to the 2020 northeast Delhi riots by Anurag Thakur and Parvesh Verma.
