New Delhi: The Indian government will release a postal stamp to honour legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday.
It will be a commemorative stamp, informed Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology.
Vaishnaw, speaking at the India Today Budget Round Table, said that the stamp will be an appropriate honour for the ‘Nightingale of India’.
The Postal department issues commemorative stamps on the occasion of important events, to honour prominent personalities, on aspects of nature, beautiful or rare flora and fauna, environmental issues, agricultural activities, national/international issues, games etc.

Commemorative stamps are printed in limited quantities and are available at Philatelic Bureaux and counters or under the Philatelic Deposit Account Scheme.
According to guidelines of Department of Posts Stamps, stamps on personalities will not exceed 10% of the annual issue programme.
Parliament on Monday mourned the demise of Lata, who was cremated with full state honours on Sunday evening at Shivaji Park ground in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several politicians and celebrities from all walks of life.
