Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has sentenced two persons to imprisonment for two months for filing frivolous litigations against the founder of Wipro Group of companies Azim Premji and his companies.
A Division Bench of the high court comprising Justice B Veerappa and Justice KS Hemalekha announced its order on January 14 after hearing a petition filed by Premji, Wipro Limited and Hasham Investment and Trading Company Limited.
The petitioners had sought action under criminal contempt against the Chennai-based Awake for Transparency (IAT) and its representatives R Subramanian and P Sadanand.
The court also restrained the two convicts from initiating any legal proceedings against Premji and his companies before any court in future.
“Subramanian, being the authorised signatory and an advocate of a nonexistent
company (IAT), has played dual role by filing a number of frivolous writ petitions,
writ appeals, criminal petitions, and original side appeals against Premji and
others by suppressing the facts amounting to abuse of process of law and continued the proceedings in spite of dismissal of all the petitions filed,” The Hindu quoted the Bench as saying.
