Omicron Spread: Supreme Court Suspends Physical Hearing For 2 Weeks

New Delhi: In view of rising Omicron cases in the country, the Supreme Court on Sunday suspended physical hearing of cases for two weeks. The hearing will be held on virtual mode during the period.

A circular issued by the apex court stated that the modified Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) notified on October 7, 2021, for physical hearing (hybrid mode) will remain suspended for the present and all hearings before the courts for a period of two weeks with effect from January 3 will be held through virtual mode only.

The situation will be reviewed again and next course of action will be decided after two weeks, it added. The court issued the notification in this regard for the information of the members of the bar, party-in-person and all concerned, according to an India Today report.

The circular of October 7, 2021 had stated that physical hearings would be held on Tuesday and Wednesday and the hybrid hearing on Thursday every week. The virtual hearing days were fixed for Monday and Friday.
