New Delhi: Smriti Irani announced the engagement of her daughter Shanelle to Arjun Bhalla on Christmas Day.
Sharing pictures of the couple on social media, Smriti wrote: “To the man who now has our heart @arjun_bhalla welcome to our madcap family .. bless you for you have to deal with a crazy man for a father in law and worse .. me for a Saas (you have been officially warned) God bless.”

Smriti has been a public figure for over two decades. A former TV actress and producer, she took the plunge in politics with BJP and is currently Union Minister of Women and Child Development.
But not much is known about her children, who keep a low profile. Married to Parsi businessman Zubin Irani, Smriti has two children with him – son Zohr and daughter Zoish – while Shanelle is Zubin’s daughter from his first marriage to Mona Irani.
So what is Shanelle’s background and what does she do?
The 28-year-old Shanelle was born in Mumbai and it was Shah Rukh Khan — a close friend of Zubin Irani — who gave the name ‘Shanelle’, DNA according to reports.
Shanelle did her schooling from Bai Avabai Framji Petit Girls’ High School, DNA reported. Shanelle then completed her graduation from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, DNA reported.
She had a passion for debating from a young age and decided to become an advocate. She got a law degree from Government Law College, Mumbai, before earning a Master’s of Law (LLM) degree from Georgetown University Law Centre, Washington DC.
Shanelle worked as an advocate after enrolling in Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa for some time before joining WilmerHale, an international law firm. She is currently an associate in Litigation/Controversy Department. She is also a member of International Arbitration Practice Group.
