Chandigarh: Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday resigned from the post of Punjab Congress president.
He had taken charge as the new chief of Punjab Congress earlier in July amid an escalating tension within the state unit of the party.
“The collapse of a man’s character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab’s future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve Congress,” Sidhu wrote in his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
This came ahead of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s visit to Delhi amid speculation about his future course of action following his resignation on September 18.
