Bhubaneswar: President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik were among many prominent leaders to pay rich tributes to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the 1971 war with Pakistan on the Vijay Diwas on Wednesday.
“On Vijay Diwas, let us recall the valour of our soldiers that affirmed our nation’s unwavering commitment to defend our sovereignty and protect human dignity. Their martyrdom in 1971 war had shown unparalleled grit and prowess of our forces. The nation is eternally indebted to them,” the President tweeted in his message.
Prime Minister Modi lit the ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ at the National War Memorial in Delhi to mark the 50th anniversary of India’s victory in the 1971 India-Pakistan war.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the logo for ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ to mark the occasion. Prime Minister, Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and the tri-service chiefs laid wreaths to pay homage to the martyred soldiers.
“On Vijay Diwas, salute to the courage and valour of brave soldiers who fought gallantly for the pride of our nation and laid down their lives to make India triumphant in the 1971 war,” stated the Twitter handle of the chief minister.
India celebrates December 16 as Vijay Diwas to commemorate its victory over Pakistan during the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
