New Delhi: Things are hotting up in the INX Media case as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed its first chargesheet against P Chidambaram and his son Karti under the Prevention Of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
A password-protected e-chargesheet was filed against the former Union finance minister, his son and others before the court of Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar in Delhi.
The ED has been directed to file a hard copy of the chargesheet once the court resumes normal functioning.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Chidambaram on August 21 last year in connection with the INX Media case. The ED arrested him on October 16 in a related graft case. Two days later, the CBI filed a chargesheet against the senior Congress leader, his son and 11 others in the INX Media case.
Chidambaram, Karti and some bureaucrats are being investigated for allegedly committing offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Indian Penal Code.
Chidambaram was granted bail by the Supreme Court in December after being in Tihar Jail for three-and-a-half months.
The former finance minister has denied the charges and maintained that he has been targeted by CBI and ED because he is a vocal critic of the Narendra Modi-led BJP government.
