Bhubaneswar: Odisha woke up to bone-chilling Sunday as the minimum temperature plummeted to below 10 degree at 15 places in the state.
Sonepur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 3.4 degree Celsius.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, Daringbadi recorded minimum temperature of 5.5 degree Celsius at 8.30 pm followed by Angul (4.6), Titlagarh (6.1), Bhawanipatna (6.5), Keonjhar (6.6), Jharsuguda (7.3) and Sambalpur (7.4).
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum temperature of 8.8 and 10.2 degree Celsius, respectively. The other places that recorded below 10 degree Celsius are Balasore (8.6), Baripada and Sundargarh at 9 degree Celsius and Koraput (9.6).
The intensity of cold can be gauged from the fact that frost was seen at Daringbadi in Koraput and Koida and Joda in Keonjhar.
Meanwhile, cold wave alert has already been issued for several north interior Odisha districts, including Keonjhar, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Angul.
Duty officer Ajay Nayak said that cold wave conditions will also prevail in the coastal districts of Cuttack and Balasore.
He further said that several districts will continue to experience cold wave conditions for next couple of days. “There is also a possibility of rain in some places of the state from January 1, 2020,” he added.
The IMD had earlier said that cold wave conditions would prevail in 14 districts till Monday.
