Bhubaneswar: The state unit of BJP has planned to reach out to one crore people in Odisha in January to clear misgivings about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Launching a scathing attack on the Opposition Congress for misleading the public on the issue, senior party leaders on Thursday said they will hold press conferences and intellectual meets at the block level, besides launching door to door campaigns during the month, creating awareness about the Act and the provisions in it.
Addressing the media here, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan claimed that Congress was behind the countrywide protests and violent incidents following the passing of the legislation.
“Congress has become a victim of intolerance and is trying to create anarchy in the country. We will reach out one crore people in Odisha and clear misgivings about the Act,” he said.
Pradhan also made it clear that there are no plans to launch the National Register of Citizens in the state, days after PM Narendra Modi made a similar assurance to the country. The PM, at a rally in New Delhi had said that NRC will only remain confined to Assam.
Reacting to Pradhan’s charges about Congress party’s involvement in the incidents of violence, state PCC chief Niranjan Patnaik said it was the BJP, which was instigating trouble in the country and was playing divisive politics.
“The whole country knows who is behind the unrest,” he told the media, strongly refuting BJP’s allegations.
