Odisha Brings Higher Education Dept Under 5T Ambit

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government brought the Higher Education Department under the purview of its 5T (Transparency, Teamwork, Technology, Time and Transformation) initiative on Thursday.

Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahu said that the department has sent a 17-point action plan to the Planning & Convergence Department and appointed nodal officers to oversee the plan’s implementation.

Some of the action plans are as follows:

— All college teachers and staffs will have 7-hour duty
—Formation of Scholarship Council for the students
—Selection of meritorious students at the district and block levels for distribution of laptops
—No laptops for meritorious students hailing from rich families
—New guidelines to provide scholarship to meritorious students at the block level
—Career Counselling Cell in all recognised colleges and universities
—Enhancement of employability capacity for the students of degree colleges
—Coaching facility for students in neighbouring states will be provided for all-India entrance examinations
—Support to colleges and teachers to get NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accreditation
—Feedback from students on the quality of teaching will be received through SMS and on the website of the Higher Education Department at www.dheodisha.gov.in
—75% attendance will be mandatory for all students to appear in the final examinations
—Formation of Mo College in line with Mo School so that old students will be able to provide financial assistance for infrastructure development of their alma mater
—Universities and colleges providing excellent teaching on specific subjects will be ranked to attract students from neighbouring states and other countries to pursue their studies on these subjects.
—University and college teachers will be selected and sent to neighbouring states and abroad for training to upgrade their teaching skills.
