Jagdalpur: Seven people were killed after a portion of a limestone mine at a village in Chhattisgarh collapsed on Friday.
According to police, as many as six of the deceased were women.
The mishap took place in Maalgaon village, under Nagarnar police station, in Bastar district.
“The victims were digging soil in the mine when a part of it caved in, due to which they got trapped under the debris,” a police official said.
On being alerted, police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operation.
Five people died on the spot, while the other two breathed their last when they were being shifted to a hospital, police said. Two people have been rescued.
Rescue work is underway as some more people are feared trapped under the debris.
