New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, thousands of kilometres away from India to attend the BRICS Summit in South Africa, basked in the glory as Chandrayaan-3 made a successful soft landing on lunar surface precisely at the designated time on Wednesday evening.
“India, I reached my destination and you too,” was Chandrayaan-3’s message.

The PM, who joined the live telecast virtually from Johannesburg, waved the Tricolour after ISRO Chairman S Somanath announced the success of the mission and requested Modi to address the nation.
“Humne dharti par sankalp kiya aur chand pe usse sakaar kiya (we made a resolution on Earth and achieved it on the Moon)… India is now on the Moon,” said Modi.
“When we see such historic moments it makes us very proud. This is the dawn of new India… India’s successful Moon mission is not just India’s alone… This success belongs to all of humanity,” the PM said.
Modi pointed out that India is the first country to land on Moon’s south pole.
“No country has reached there (the South Pole of the moon) before. With the hard work of our scientists we have reached there,” said a proud PM.
In a video message, Presdient Droupadi Murmu said: “It is truly a momentous occasion – a kind of event that happens once in a lifetime.”
